Indonesians use train tracks as therapy

Earlier this month, the AP reported on a story about sick Indonesians lying across railroad tracks in an effort to find relief through makeshift PEMF therapy. While we don’t suggest you run to your nearest railroad, it does shed some light on how desperately some people need treatment.

Of course they asked doctors who know nothing about PEMFs to say whether or not they think this is of any value. Anybody who understands physics would be able to say that there is definitely going to be an influence on the rails by passing trains. When you have steel wheels passing over a rail at high speed, you are generating charge. That charge, that is the EMF, will in fact be felt at some distance. It’s possible that the passing train could be inducing EMF in the rails and therefore the individuals will feel the difference. Of course, it’s not known whether that if they stood next to a passing train they may feel something similar. However, a passing train inducing charge in a rail next to it is likely to conduct this field over a long distance down that parallel rail.
